My AR-15 will not eject the expeded casing?

I have an AR-15 also known as an M4. everytime I fire the weapon the expended casing will not eject. In other words the next round doesn't cycle. I was told the problem might be the extractor. Which I can't seem to find anywhere. Any ideas?
