What is the term used to describe shortened words?

Not abbreviations. I'm trying to describe when certain accents (for example a country accent) is written with shortened or cut-up words. For example " the " is written as " th' " and " running " as "runnin' " what is the term for this? Is it something to do with conjunctions? I need to know for my exam revision, thanks :).
