What's the evolutionary advantage of using protein before fat?

The human body uses glucose (carbs) for fuel first, but if there isn't enough glucose available then it turns to protein for a fuel source, and THEN fat. I thought fat was supposed to be the extra fuel. What's the point of using protein before fat, especially if protieproteinsically in everything in the human body?
