How can I use my samsung model no. ps-rtz512 speakers with macbook pro?

I tried to splice the speaker wires into some headphone wires, with jack, and plug it into my Macbook, but no sound at all came from the speaker. I'm guessing that the speakers need a power source. I have the wireless receiver and the tx card.
